About this detail of the Tiger
There is only 1 known photo of Tiger 007, the last one used by Michael Wittman. From this photo alone we must deduce the colours and features of the tank, in order to build an accurate model.
We can date the tank's construction to the period from February to April 1944. It has the final type of starter adapter plate, and the large muzzle brake.
But the picture does not tell us if there is a 25mm or 40mm turret roof, nor whether the gunsight has one or two openings in the mantlet.
This is Tiger 009 of the same unit, and it appears to be a sister vehicle. Both Tigers were command tanks, delivered in the same batch. This one has the 25mm roof and 2 openings in the mantlet. It was this photo that determined the configuration of the kit for 007.
This photo shows Tiger 901 of 9./SS-Panzerregiment 3, another command Tiger built around the same time. This one is different to 009 in that it has only 1 opening in the mantlet; but it still has the 25mm roof.
Until more photos are found, we cannot be completely sure that the kit correctly represents 007. The kit provides both 25mm and 40mm roof parts, should you disagree with our choice of 25mm.
