About this detail of the Tiger
The kit instructions offer two ways to build the engine hatch; with or without support legs. Unfortunately, both of the options are incorrect.
There are two sets of holes for the handles. You should open up the forward holes. Do not use the rear holes in any circumstances.
Two support legs were added to the engine hatch in late April 1943 [1, see 18.104.22.168] . This is the time when Wittman's tank was built. We don't know whether he had these items on his tank. The choice is yours.
The units are supposed to be workable, but this is a real test of your modelling skill! There is a locator pin underneath each unit; cut it off.
The instructions tell you to place the legs behind the handles. This is an error. This position was not used until later.
This is the correct position of the legs on the Wittman tank.
The base meets the edge of the hatch.
