About this detail of the Tiger
The commander of a Tiger had binoculars. In at least some of the vehicles, there was a box for storing them.
This is the binoculars box in the Bovington vehicle. The box is mounted sitting on the turret ring. It is a small, open-topped metal box with a hanger fixed to the front. I don't know how it was used.
The box is mounted on the turret ring, between various items of machinery as shown here.
There were other arrangements of turret stowage prior to what we see in the Bovington vehicle; unfortunately I don't have enough information to say whether they had a similar box.
The next known arrangement of turret stowage is drawn in the Turret Manual for the redesigned turret with the new cupola. The box has been moved back closer to the commander, probably because the position-indicator gear is gone. The box is also raised 30mm. I've drawn it at the edge of the new turret ring, but really I don't know how close to the wall it was.
In the final known arrangement of turret stowage, as seen in the Saumur tank, there is no obvious place to store binoculars.
