About this detail of the Tiger
The kit's decals have an option for a Tiger "123". This is a tank of the 503rd, featured in a photo shoot at the time of Kursk.
Tiger "123" had a Panzer 3 turret bin. The kit provides that bin, among others. But these parts are not appropriate for this kit, because Panzer 3 bins it were used by earlier versions of Tiger than the kit can build.
For example, it's clear from this photo that Tiger "123" had a pistol port on the turret's right side (arrowed). But Border's kit has a large hatch at this place, because it builds a later version of Tiger.
Some Tigers with the Panzer 3 bin did have a turret hatch, but they were all earlier versions of Tiger than this kit can build. The differences include :
Side skirts "type 2" with no end panels and different lengths.
A different layout of the hull roof equipment, with no S-mine brackets. Those brackets are molded into the kit's roof.
No exhaust shield mounts, which are also molded into the kit.
A different shape for the front edges of the hull armour.
In summary, the Panzer 3 bin and the "123" decals are for "Initial Tigers" but this kit builds an "Early Tiger".
