Making a historic artefact operational, and preserving it in its original state, are sometimes oppposing goals. Some items of modern equipment have been added to Tiger "131" to enhance its safety while driving.
The small box of electronics that I circled here, is a modern addition. Tigers didn't normally have anything in this corner, to the upper left of the driver's facia. The gyroscope immediately below it, on the other hand, is a genuine WW2 item.
The box that I point out in this photo, is another modern addition to Tiger "131" (I am told it's a fire suppression system). Again, there was nothing there during WW2.
A third small box has been added to the back of the radio rack. It's pointed out in this photo. The tank's original intercom box can be glimpsed above it.
This list of modern equipment added to the tank, covers only the crew compartment.
