About this detail of the Tiger
SS Panzer Regiment 1 was given a company of Tigers at the end of 1942. Among them was Tiger "412", shown here in the following Spring. It's possible to build it from the "Tiki" kit if you can provide suitable decals.
This Tiger fought in the Third Battle of Kharkov. We have no photographs of it from this battle, but we know that it should have been whitewashed like the other Tigers of the company. Its number "412" would have been displayed in a rectangle on each side of the turret, where the original paint was not covered. This dark paint was actually the first tropical scheme, RAL 8000 / RAL 7008.
In all the later photos of this Tiger, it has a subtle camouflage scheme that was probably made with the standard 3 colours issued in 1943. The tank's number was changed later, from 412 to 1312, as we can see here.
You should divert from the instructions by using part H1 for the mantlet.
In the photos of this Tiger in the summer of 1943, it has no track cable on the hull side, no shovel on the glacis plate, and no S-mine launcher tubes. The holders were empty. We can't see the hull roof, but some other tools are probably missing also.
The turret bin in the kit has "notched" sides, which is not correct for Tiger "412 / 1312". Replace the kit parts U1, U2 with solid plastic sheeting or fill the notches in some other way. Do not cut the inner side of the bin.
With the notches absent, the turret bin will not fit flush against the turret. In the real Tiger it stood a small distance clear of the wall. See this page for details of the wide turret bin on Tigers of the LAH.
Although the S-mine tubes have not been seen on this Tiger, it had the support arms bolted into place at the hull's rear corners. Outer and inner arms were different.
Install the kit's spare track storage on the hull front, unless building it in whitewash at the time of Kharkov, when this probably had not been fitted. Use all of the outer roadwheels; omit the Feifel system but retain the V-duct on the engine hatch.
