About this detail of the Tiger
Early on, the Tiger was given a set of 6 smoke grenade launchers, three on each side of the turret. These were to provide emergency cover if the tank was vulnerable.
This photograph shows the rear of launchers on the Bovington vehicle, before restoration. Three electric leads can be seen emerging from a single cable. The launchers could be fired individually.
This view of the same launchers from above, shows how the cable emerged from the turret roof.
This photo shows the same spot inside the tank. A stowage box has been removed from the wall. A metal plug is welded into a hole in the roof, and the cable passes through it. The opening is of course waterproofed for submerged travel.
Here are some dimensions of the mounting strips. The launcher pots are 160mm long and 100mm wide.
