Archives:

Centre d'archives de l'Armement de Chatellerault : (Armament archives center at Chatellerault)

211, grande Rue de Chateauneuf  BP 650

86106 Chatellerault Cedex

Tel: 05 49 20 01 20

(These archives are also open to foreigners )

These archives are located in an old factory, the documents coming from the different services working for the Army (air, land, sea ). These archives are really a gold mine for modellers but they have to be patient and to like searching.

As a matter of fact, there are about 70 km of classified archive boxes !

Researchers into French and US subjects are lucky, they can find almost everything! There is also some German documentation (manuals, plans, evaluation reports...).

Postal requests (in French) are possible, but it's best to go there (with an appointment), because nobody but you can know what is of interest. Beware, the classification method is really complex (even for France) and don't expect to find anything if you don't stay at least a day. The documents are sometimes so technical that they can't be used by a modeller (so, it's only for the real fanatics ).

Chatellerault Archives about the Tiger I : Turret manual D656/22, French evaluation report of 1946, French translation of the driver's manual. (and I hope I will find other things...)

Books:

Books about the Tiger I are really numerous and I can't cite them all, I only mention the books in which the interior is described .
