When the turret is removed from a Tiger, it reveals a large flat ring welded to the hull roof. The ring has a distinct pattern of holes, with some variations depending on the Tiger's build date.
The turret ring looked like this from October 1943 onwards. It has 43 bolt holes, plus two larger holes for locating pins that help workers to lower the turret into place.
Rye Field's Tiger models have the ring molded into the hull roof. If the kit has an interior, then lifting the turret to display the interior will expose this ring.
Rye Field added two notches to their turret ring (shown here), for locking the model's turret into place; of course there were no corresponding notches on the real vehicle.
Rye Field have only 24 bolt holes in the ring on their Mid and Late Tigers, rather than 43. They don't have the two locating holes. And they put five incorrect holes in the ring, as you can see in this photo.
