The Tiger, as originally designed, had 2 headlights in mounts on the top of the hull. These were supposed to be removed when going into battle.
I don't know if the vehicle had any dedicated place to store the headlights in its original layout. But by the time that hull #122 was built, it had two headlight mounts welded to the inside roof at the crew positions in the hull.
This is one such mount in the vehicle at Bovington museum [2] . This tank has been repainted but some of the original decal remains, reading 'Scheinwerfer'. The headlight could be screwed upside-down to the round nub, with the chain providing insurance against breakage should it work loose.
This is the location of the mount in the right-hand sponson. This mount was deleted after the number of headlights on a Tiger was reduced to one [3] .
This is the location of the mount in the left-hand sponson, seen from above.
In Befehlstigers, this mount was moved into the forward corner of the sponson because of the additional radio equipment stowed in the tank. [1]
